OCT 20
Well yesterday….I finished FWT’s first draft… and now I feel empty inside.
There’s always a bit of a weird… hollow feeling to finishing such a big draft… tbh i get the feeling even on small guys. There’s something about finishing a big step in a project and this October is really wrapping up a lot of Big Projects so I’m going to be hitting the 31st absolutely gutted just in time for NaNo.
I’m… really proud of this one though. Its a big step with still a few more big steps to account for but its some of my best writing (our best writing because while I physically wrote the script I was definitely getting advice from my partner in crime the whole way through).
OVERALL THOUGHTS
Well, it sure has been one hell of a month. It wasn’t entirely intentional that I didn’t write so much this month but I’m coming to the conclusion that when I finish a big project… I just need a break, you know? And finishing the FAREWELL TOUR first draft was a fucking feat.
So… i didn’t really get much writing done this month. Its been a tough year. My brain’s being pulled in a lot of different directions. I don’t write very well Under Duress and money’s been tight, payments aren’t on time. I’m stressed haha. I was having a hard time, mentally and found myself gravitating towards taking much needed breaks (and playing videogames) vs forcing myself to write. My tank’s filling up again, just in time for nano ;>
CHALLENGE RECAP
I think this challenge as it is, has come to a close for me here. I was hoping to wrap it up in December (the same month I started it in in 2024). I’ll still be doing NANO but I think that’s a different type of post.
I think my overall conclusion is that this challenge was fun. I think I’ll upkeep it more on a personal level than by actively updating posts about it here to my website. I’m heading into 2026 hoping to finish up some of these drafts I’ve got piled here and that… is much more difficult to actually calculate in terms of word count. We’re heading into the MAKING STUFF era so maybe I’ll come back to a big daily-writing year again once a few of these beasts are off my plate.
I kinda…. liked doing monthly recaps though. Maybe I’ll start doing a bit of a monthly blog about stuff I’ve been working on, things in my periphery. What I’m playing, what I’m listening to. IDK.
Another issue of mine, is that posting these writing challenge things blocked me mentally from bothering to post about OTHER things in my life because I always had a hivver page open. I’m starting to realise I have some sort of focus neurodivergence that really just gets in the way haha god.
Anyway. If you stuck with me through this–thanks! I’ll still be around and, hell. I’ll probably still be giving myself the 500-1000 wc daily goal just quantifying it less.
Is this challenge worth doing? Um…. I think so. I found it really just got me out of my head and allowed me to focus on writing and enjoying the journey of discovering my stories alongside my characters. I haven’t felt this good about writing in a long time.
That and… other things led to that discovery… but, well. That gets a bit too personal for a funky little online space.
Hope your Halloween was spooky, scary, fun. I spent it watching Over The Garden Wall (a yearly tradition) with my partner and–this time–we DIDNT fall asleep halfway through in a cozy warm food-ridden coma.
